Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites

Lesser-Known” Parks Campaign

Pineapple Public Relations has been the PR Agency for Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites since 2013, concentrating PR efforts to increase awareness, visitation and overnight stays to the 63 parks and historic sites from regional and in-state markets.

During the pandemic, many of Georgia’s State Parks had an unusual situation – due to the desire of people to find safe, outdoor places to recreate and social distance naturally, many of the more well-known parks were becoming overcrowded.

Goal

To keep Georgia’s State Parks positioned as a safe outdoor alternative, Pineapple PR developed a campaign to attract visitors to the lesser-known yet equally beautiful State Parks, and to educate visitors on the best times and places to visit for an uncrowded experience. The campaign utilized media relations, press release and pitch campaign, media visits, both the parks’ and state’s social media accounts, and an E-newsletter campaign.

Results

The “lesser-known” parks were filling up, with some seeing an increase of up to 69% in occupancy, and visitors were starting to travel farther for a safe, less-crowded, park experience.
